Former Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson was reportedly benched by UCF in favor of the rookie

According to a report from Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, former Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson was benched by UCF in favor of freshman EJ Colson before the Knights' game against the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Jefferson, who was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC before his transfer, has fallen somewhat out of favor this season. Injury issues have played a role in Jefferson's performance, but this decision appears to be due to much more.

He finished the loss to Florida on October 5 by going 12-for-22 passing for 165 yards and a touchdown. In five games this season, Jefferson has completed 59.3% of his passes for 1,012 yards with 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Colson will now have the chance to prove himself in Jefferson's place as he will be playing in a live game for the first time as a true freshman. He was originally listed as a 3-star prospect out of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia and was ranked as the No. 64 quarterback in the class of 2025 and No. 126 overall prospect in the state of Georgia by 247Sports. He originally committed to UCF on July 6, 2023.

Cincinnati and UCF begin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
