What Florida State coach Mike Norvell and Georgia high school football fans saw on Friday

CJ Wiley, Milton's star wide receiver and Florida State player, didn't have his most productive game.

But his future coach Mike Norvell, who showed up near a high school game in a helicopter for the second straight year, still had plenty to see in Milton's highly entertaining 42-24 win in Gainesville.

* Committed standouts included Miami-bound quarterback Luke Nickel, who went 18 of 31 for 286 yards and three touchdowns (stats courtesy of WDUN) for Milton.

*His teammate and Georgia tight end Ethan Barbour dominated with touchdown grabs of 55 and 39 yards. He finished the game with more than 150 yards receiving.

* Among the uncommitted players Norvell might look at was Milton's 5-foot-10, 195-pound senior tailback TJ Lester, the son of the late former NFL running back Tim Lester, who rushed for 139 yards, all but 13 scored two touchdowns after halftime.

One of them was a 25-yarder that had to be seen to be believed.

* The other potential fantastic find was Gainesville sophomore quarterback Kharim Higley, a speedy 5-foot-11, 180-pounder who threw for 232 yards and a touchdown and added a big 39-yard touchdown run to make it a quick one Secondary overtook.

Considering Milton is ranked No. 6 in the country and No. 1 in Georgia according to SBLive Sports and the Eagles are the defending 7-A state champions, the win wasn't much of a surprise. But it was the first regional loss for Gainesville under coach Josh Niblett since he took over in 2022.
